Nature reserve of Castro Marim (half-day)

The nature reserve of Castro Marim, next to the Spanish border, includes huge salt flats and salt marshes on about 2.000 hectares near the Guadiana river-mouth. The area holds high numbers of aquatic birds, including Flamingos, Spoonbills. Great Spotted Cuckoo, Stone Curlew, Spectacled Warbler and Lesser Short-toed Lark are among the breeding birds of the reserve. Also a small population of Little Bustards exists. Both, Audouin's Gulls and Slender-billed Gulls are best found here, or in the salt pans around Tavira, which we are also going to visit. In May, if time allows, we
can include an excursion in the hills area, in order to look for the scarce summer-visitor, Western Rufus Bush-Robin and the rare White-rumped Swift.

The reservation must be made with a minimum of 48H advance.
