Via Algarviana

The Via Algarviana is a Great Pedestrian Route (GR13) that links the Lower Guadiana to the Sagres Peninsula.

It starts in Alcoutim and stretches to Cabo de São Vicente in Vila do Bispo, covering 300 kilometres, passing through the Algarve's barrocal region and the Caldeirão, Monchique and Espinhaço de Cão mountains.

It is divided into 14 stages that take place in forest and rural areas, crossing remote and isolated villages that still preserve unique ancestral cultural values. It also crosses places of particular natural value that are part of the Natura 2000 Network, due to the rich biodiversity it harbours and the presence of such emblematic species as the Iberian Lynx or Bonelli's Eagle.
