Fonte da Benémola

The Fonte Benémola Local Protected Landscape, established by Decree-Law no. 142/2008 of 24 July, is a place of rare beauty, located on the border between the Barrocal and the Serra, which is home to places of great geological and biological interest.

More than 300 different species of plants are recorded in this protected area, including numerous wild orchids, and more than 100 species of birds occur here throughout the year, including the Guarda Rios, the Bee-eater and the Bufo-real.

The agricultural valley has a very special ancestral built heritage, especially related to the strong presence of water. You can find water mills, irrigation levadas, norias, weirs, water mines and fountains.
