Celebrate and protect the Algarve's wetlands
On february 2nd is the International Wetlands Day 🌿🌊
The best way to celebrate it is by preserving these vital ecosystems for the balance of the environment and for biodiversity.
The Algarve's wetlands are one of the region's greatest natural assets, home to many species of migratory birds, plants and other living creatures.
Unfortunately, they are still subject to constant threats, such as urbanization, pollution and climate change.
Since our inception, we have been concerned with acting to preserve the territory and the richness of its natural and cultural heritage. As well as our involvement in protecting the Salgados Lagoon, we support initiatives in the Ria Formosa, the Castro Marim Nature Reserve and the inland streams (Vascão, Benémola and others).
Many of the plants we show and experiment with in our activities related to local crafts come from these wetlands.
We believe that Responsible Tourism plays an essential role in protecting these areas, because:
💧 activities are carefully planned so as not to negatively impact sensitive ecosystems.
💧 it provides visitors with the opportunity to explore the natural beauty of the region, while raising public awareness of the importance of preserving natural resources
💧 generates income through responsible practices that are partly channeled into the protection and maintenance of these areas.
On this International Wetlands Day, it is important to reflect on our collective responsibility in preserving these habitats and supporting initiatives that promote the sustainability of the region. 🌍
